Each word stands in its own column, with the pinyin above, the characters in tone colors and a short meaning below. Select a word to see every sense, the traditional form, its HSK level and, if you turn them on, its Cantonese and Hokkien readings. Long words open into the words inside them, so each new word teaches you the characters it is made of. With Pro, a translation of the whole passage sits above the words.

Hear it as you read
iCE says each word aloud as you capture it, and any word you tap, with a neural voice that runs on your computer. Your ear learns the sounds while your eyes learn the characters. Reading aloud is part of the free version.
Keep what you read
Every sentence you capture is saved in the study window with the place it came from. Your words are grouped as Just started, Studying and Familiar, and review brings each one back before you forget it. Mark the words you know and iCE can dim them in the popup, so the new ones stand out. You can export your favorites to Anki or as CSV.
Ways to ask
iCE waits in the system tray. Turn each way of reading on or off from the tray menu. The manual lists the keyboard shortcuts.
